I was looking into books about safe food handling and was having trouble choosing one. I found that many of the samples of other similar books were much too technical or made specifically for passing of food handling test for the restaurant industry. It really helped that there were samples for the books for kindle I was looking into. After reading an excerpt for this book, I decided to take the dive and purchase this one for the kindle.The book is very well written for a lay audience. It goes briefly into the history of major food borne illnesses and helps you understand how they emerge. It broadens your understanding of the types of food borne illnesses and also explains how to prevent and treat these illnesses (if at all possible). This book is high on my recommendations list, especially because I did not grow up with home economic classes. I learned to cook through watching lots of videos and reading recipe books, but I never learned proper food handling or safety. I figured now is a good time to start, given that COVID is going on and we're staying home more often.This book is practical for everybody who lives at home and cooks, and also informative for people who travel.
